Welcome. We are the Fobbits.
Friends of the Badlands.
The Fobbits (FOB) are a band of volunteers and service organizations.
We are the eyes, ears and boots on the ground, performing the stewardship role
for the beautiful Badlands of Central Oregon,
working closely with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Oregon Natural
Desert Association (ONDA).

The Badlands, located just 15 miles east of Bend, is a 30,000 acre area containing
fascinating lava flows and ancient junipers. Within this landscape, one can find
incredible displays of desert wildflowers, dry river canyons, castle-like rock formations,
and Native American pictographs. Rugged lava formations and 1000 year old juniper trees are
intertwined with sandy trails lined with sagebrush and lichen-laden volcanic boulders.
Signs of wildlife are everywhere and the skyline views are simply awesome.

The Badlands Wilderness Study Area is only 20 minutes east of Bend.
One of our goals is to have the designation upgraded to Full Wilderness Protection Area.
Volunteers are the backbone and lifeline of our efforts to
bring awareness and protections to this wonderous natural resource, which is a jewel
of the high desert.
